Let Us Introduce You To Our Friend Tudor Montague!

Tudor Montague (Quechan) is putting his passion to practice. A graduate of Haskell Indian Nations University and the University of Kansas, Tudor spent his early career working for tribes in the environmental field.  An amateur/hobbyist brewer, Tudor’s interest in coffee began when he noticed similarities between the beer brewing and coffee roasting processes during his schooling at the American Brewers Guild. He was drawn to the art and science of roasting and began studying coffee full time.  Spirit Mountain was founded in 2015 and the journey for the perfect process continues.

Freshness and quality should always come first. Therefore, we use only 100% Arabica coffee beans and roast every batch to order. We believe that it is our responsibility to operate in a way that minimizes our impact on Mother Earth. We use Biotre biodegradable coffee bags made of renewable material for our packaging.

We are a community oriented company. Our community includes not only the pipa, people of the Quechan Nation, it includes the entire coffee supply chain from seed to cup. We do our part by engaging in direct and fair trade with indigenous coffee farmers whenever possible. Throughout the world, coffee is an important part of what sustains communities.  We support these communities by working with suppliers that align with our values. We select coffees which are produced sustainably (organic), exchanged fairly (fair trade), handled correctly (roasted with care), and (we hope) enjoyed thoroughly.

We partner with non-profit organizations that share our values and donate a portion of our sales proceeds to them. These organizations include Minnesota-based Kalpulli Yaocenoxtli/ Indigenous Roots and California-based Native America Humane Society.
